Self-Checkout Mode
The self-checkout mode for SmartPOS allows customers in your location to pay for items cashlessly without the help of staffed checkout. When SmartPOS operates in the self-checkout mode, the customers can buy only items from the departments you allowed the self-checkout sale for. See Departments for information on how to manage departments in SmartPOS.
To use SmartPOS in the self-checkout mode in your location, activate SmartPOS and connect it to the Petrosoft Cloud. See Getting started with SmartPOS for information on how to activate SmartPOS and connect it to the Petrosoft Cloud.
If the QwickServe unit is integrated with the SmartPOS unit in your location, the customers can order food and pay for ordered food in SmartPOS cashlessly without the help of staffed checkout.
How to enable or disable self-checkout sale
User Self Checkout is a default system user designed to switch SmartPOS to the self-checkout mode. This user is active by default. You can deactivate it if you want no self-checkout sale in your location. See Users for information on how to manage users in SmartPOS.
Before switching to the self-checkout mode
Before switching SmartPOS to the self-checkout mode, at least one user with the Allow Self-Checkout Exit permission must clock in. Otherwise, reboot will be required to close the self-checkout mode. See Clock In for information on how to clock in. See User Role and Permissions for information on how to configure the user permissions.
Clock in all users who will assist customers in performing transactions in the self-checkout mode. The clock-in is required to confirm there is at least one employee in your location who will perform the following actions:
- Assist the customers when they ask for help or the SmartPOS unit makes a pee-pee sound meaning, that someone requested assistance.
- Confirm void for items in the cart for the customers attempting to void the items, if the Item Void permission is deselected for user Self Checkout.
- Verify the age of the customers having age-restricted items in the cart and confirm the transaction after age verification.
Selling age-restricted items in the self-check mode
If you are going to sell age-restricted items in the self-checkout mode, at least one clocked-in user must have the Allow Age restricted permission. Once a customer attempts to pay for the cart where there is at least one age-restricted item, the clocked-in user with this permission must verify the age and confirm the age verification pass by entering his or her user password. See User Role and Permissions for information on how to configure the user permissions.
Managing the customers' ability to void items in the cart without the personnel's confirmation
The Item Void permission for user Self Checkout defines if the customers can void items in the cart without the confirmation of any clocked-in user. By default, SmartPOS deselects this permission for user Self Checkout. If you keep this permission deselected, make sure at least one clocked-in user has the Item Void permission. Once a customer attempts to void an item in the cart or void the entire cart, the clocked-in user must confirm the void operation by entering his or her user password. See User Role and Permissions for information on how to configure the user permissions.
