Consolidated Tax Sales Report
The Consolidated Tax Sales report displays, shift by shift, the sales subject to sales tax and the tax actually collected, broken down by each tax configured at your cash registers.
Use this report to:
- Prepare sales tax returns.
- View how the tax burden splits across jurisdictions (for example, state vs. municipal taxes).
- Compare tax collection across multiple stations.
Opening the Report
Go to Reports > Store > Sales > Consolidated Tax Sales. For more information, see Viewing Reports.
By default, the report opens for the Current Month and includes all stations that belong to the account, division, or company you are currently viewing.
Interpreting the Report
Each row represents one shift at one station. Shifts are grouped under their business date, so a single date typically contains multiple rows.
- Date: The business date of the shift.
- Shift: The shift number as reported by the register. Next to each shift number, an eye icon allows you to view shift details.
- There is one pair of Taxable Sales / Collected Tax columns for each tax selected in the Filter By criteria. Tax names are reported directly from your registers. If a tax has no name configured at the POS, it appears as Tax 1, Tax 2, and so on:
- Taxable Sales <tax name>: The portion of that shift's sales subject to this specific tax.
- Collected Tax <tax name>: The tax actually collected on those sales during that shift.
- Total Taxable Sales: The sum of all Taxable Sales columns displayed in that row.
- Total Tax Collected: The sum of all Collected Tax columns in that row (the total sales tax owed for that shift).
The pie chart below the table displays the percentage share of each tax relative to the Total Tax Collected figure during the selected period.
Where the Numbers Come From
Every figure in this report originates from shift data—either reported by the register when the shift was closed or entered manually.
- Only accepted shifts appear: Shifts are only included once accepted in CStoreOffice®. If a shift is missing, it is likely still pending. Re-accepting or re-processing a shift automatically updates its numbers here.
- All amounts are net of refunds: Tax and taxable sales refunded during the shift are already deducted from Collected Tax and Taxable Sales.
- Tax splits follow register data: CStoreOffice® does not recalculate tax rates or reallocate amounts between jurisdictions. If a tax is set up incorrectly at the register, this report reflects the register's figures. Update the POS tax configuration to fix discrepancies going forward.
- Inclusion of tax in taxable sales: Depending on your register make and configuration, some POS systems report the taxable base including tax, while others exclude it. Compare one shift in this report against your register's shift tape to verify your register's behavior.
Totals
Total Taxable Sales sums each taxable sales column in the row. If an item is subject to multiple taxes (such as state and municipal tax on the same merchandise), its sales amount appears in both tax columns and is added twice in the total. This is intentional, allowing each tax's individual base to be verified independently.
- Use Total Tax Collected to verify the total tax amount you owe.
- Use the individual Taxable Sales column for a specific tax's return.
- Do not treat Total Taxable Sales as total period revenue, as non-taxable sales are excluded and overlapping taxable sales are counted more than once.
Filtering Report Data
To get the exact information you need, you can apply filters to the report.
By default, the report shows information for the last month. To select a different period, specify a custom date range in the From and To fields or select one of the predefined periods from the dropdown.
To further narrow down the report by the specific taxes (Filter By) and stations (Stations Included), click the Advanced> button and select the filtering criteria. Press and hold CTRL or Shift while clicking the items to apply multiple filtering criteria for the same category.
Click the Refresh button to re-render the report.
Custom Filter Presets
To save the currently selected filter to quickly return to them in the future, click Save in the top and specify the preset name.
To apply the saved filter, simple select it from the dropdown.
Click Reset to return to the default filter (all taxes and stations for the last month).
Grouping Report Data
You can organize and summarize shift rows by selecting the grouping criteria from the Subtotal By dropdown.
Click the Refresh button to re-calculate the data and render the grouped report.
When using Subtotal By, the report inserts a header row before each group and a subtotal row after it.
The Total row at the bottom always calculates across every row in the report, regardless of grouping.
Nested Grouping
You can create a two-level nested hierarchy. Click the Advanced> button and select the primary (Priority 1) and secondary (Priority 2) grouping criteria in the Subtotal By section.
Click the Refresh button to re-calculate the data and render the grouped report.

Checking Against Other Reports
- Sales Summary: Click the information icon next to any shift number to open the Sales Summary report for that specific station, date, and shift in a new tab. Its Collected Tax figure matches this report, while also providing breakdown by tender and department.
- AIM Export: The tax totals in the sales file correspond to the Collected Tax numbers here for the matching stations and date range.
Troubleshooting
A shift is missing from the report.
Shifts appear only after they are accepted. Accept the pending shift in CStoreOffice®, then click Refresh.
Total Taxable Sales appears too high.
If items are subject to multiple taxes, their sales base is included in multiple columns. See Reading the Totals Correctly.
Total Tax Collected does not match other sales reports.
Ensure all applicable taxes are selected under Filter By, and verify that the date range and stations align. If filters match, any discrepancy stems from the raw register data.
Taxable sales for QwickServe departments look incorrect.
Verify that the QwickServe Taxes Calculated on Cash Register option is enabled for that register. For instructions, see MISC > QwickServe Settings.
A tax is named "Tax 1" or "Tax 2" instead of its formal name.
The register did not pass a tax label during that period. Set the tax name in your cash register's tax settings to ensure proper labeling for future shifts.
