About Linked Items
A linked item is one that is associated with a primary Item. When a primary Item is purchased, the linked item is added to the transaction. For example, a bottle deposit can be added to all appropriate bottled items automatically. When a bottled item is sold, the bottle deposit item is added to the transaction. The most common usage of linked items will be similar to California's CRV.
What is a CRV?
CRV or California Redemption Value is a fee paid on recyclable beverage containers. This fee is passed from the distributor to the retail to the consumer. CRV is taxable. Examples of items that have a CRV are water, soft drinks, sports drinks, coffee drinks, tea drinks, beer, other malt beverages, and fruit juices in containers less than 46 oz. Examples of items with no CRV are milk, medical drinks, formula, wine, distilled spirits, and fruit juice over 46 oz. There are two different amounts for CRV. These amounts are dependent on size. The CRV on items less than or equal to 24 oz is $.05. The CRV on items greater than 24 oz is $.10.
